Trust and Safety
Irish Pages is a free directory, and a directory is only useful if people can trust it. This is what we do about that.
Listings are confirmed by email
When someone adds a business, nothing is published until they click a one-time link we send to their email address. Submissions that look unusual, such as a free email address, a website that does not match, or links in the description, wait for us to check them by hand first.
Only the owner can edit a listing
There are no passwords to steal. Owners log in with a one-time link sent to their email, and each login only works for the listings that email address holds. Claiming a listing needs the same email click, and a claim from an address that does not match the business goes to us for a manual check.
Changes to contact details raise an alarm
Fake listings are rare. The more common scam is to take over a real listing and swap in a different phone number or website. So whenever a phone number, email address or website changes, we email the previous email address and any other owner straight away. The email has an “undo” button that puts the old details back and removes the account that made the change. We also get a copy.
Anyone can report a listing
Every listing has a “Report this listing” button, with a specific option for scams and fake businesses. A person on our team reads every report.
Reviews and photos are checked too
Reviews wait for approval before they appear. Uploaded logos and photos are limited to ordinary image types and checked on upload.
What we cannot promise
A listing confirmed by email shows that someone controls that email address. It does not guarantee the quality of the business. Always check reviews and ask for a written quote before paying a deposit, especially to someone you do not know.
Spotted something?
Use the report button on the listing, or email hello@irishpages.ie. We aim to look at scam reports the same working day.
